the candidates are back on the campaign trail today. president obama starts out where he left off in denver then he heads to madison wisconsin. joe biden is in iowa and mitt romney is in virginia. but who wants to talk about all of that when what you really want to talk about is the debates. a lot of claims thrown around last night. we're going to do some fact checking for you this morning. but first let's start out with a bit of a recap. of the debate was moderated by mitt romney. oh wait, we mean jim lehrer who i think it is safe to say did worse than expected. the president did not perform up to his usual standards and mitt romney came out swinging taking a very offensive approach against the president as well as jim lehrer, big barned the entire pbs crew. the debate focus around the economy as we knew it would and the candidates traded jabs over tax policies for the middle class. >> romney: under the president's policies middle income americans have been buried. they've been crushed. i will not under any circ

political news this hour. as previously uncirculated or not widely circulated tape of president obama on the one side and vice presidential nominee paul ryan on the other side have both been posted online tonight in typical, late in the campaign, october surprise, boy do we have a bomb shell fashion. first on the right at the tucker carlson website, the right wing sirens blaring excitement tonight is for the same kind of tape they have tried to make bomb shells out of the last three times we have gone through this in the election cycle. over and over and over again, the right has tried to make huge news not out of something president obama has done as president but out after a big unveiling, a big, giant, coordinated round of attention for something from president obama's supposedly secret past. this spring it was the glen beck website dousing themselves in gasoline and pulling the fire alarm over video of president obama speaking as a law student at harvard. video at a press conference where obama says nothing news worthy. that was explosive tape, not at all. last month it was the dr

there is a difference. part of the philosophy of president obama is trying to get as many americans as possible dependent on government so that the democrats can stay in power in perpetuity. the reason i think that is failing is, even those americans, if you break down that 47%, there is a significant chunk of people, receiving social security, who have paid into it their entire life. that is very different from being dependent on welfare. that is a critical safety net our society has counted on that we need to insure remain strong for generations to come. even those who are receiving welfare right now, most americans do not want to stay dependent on government. they want to work for the american dream. they want to work to provide for themselves and their families. i think that is why the obama administration's objective is essentially using bread and circuses to make as many people as possible dependent on government, to keep voting democratic, is not succeeding. americans want to stand on their own feet. >> that is the craziest thing i ever heard of my life. you are accusing the president of

appreciated that i was able to ask obama about obamacare. i asked, why is it that the middle class is still buried in this country? why we have millions of people out of work? why is it that half of our children coming out of college cannot find a job? why is it that when he took office, 32 million people are on food stamps? i asked him those questions. you heard his answers. as a result of those answers, the american people recognize that he and i stand for something very different. i will help the american people get good jobs and a bright future. [cheers and applause] even more importance than what was happening in the past was what he plans on doing for the future. he had the chance to describe his vision for the future. what it was was more of the same. he described a series of ideas that we have heard before. he talks about a stimulus and hiring more government workers and having the government making investments. of course, he talks about raising taxes. they plan to raise taxes on the american people and that will kill jobs. we want to create jobs and not kill jobs in this country.
